John started playing pool around the age of five, another one that had to stand on a crate to see over the rail. He became hooked on the game from the first shot, and has played ever since.
With many local tournament wins and a good knowlege of the game, John was invited to become one of the founders of the Alpena 5 Man pool tournamnents in 1982, and a dozen years later became Director of the tournament.
In 2002 John lost his good freind and stick repairman, Jim Olms to cancer. Without a repairman for the tournaments, John decided to learn the repair trade and do the tournaments himself. Soon after, he was asked to build a shaft then decided to jump in with both feet and learn the art of cue building.
Now John builds full time at his home in Alpena and after 27 years has stepped aside to let his freinds from State Wide Billiards and Players Tour Productions take over the Alpena tournaments. John plans on doing repairs at the Alpena tournaments and tournaments around the state for years to come.
